Questions About Therapy

Play and Creative Arts Therapy helps children and young people express themselves using art, play, movement and metaphor, especially when words are hard to find.

Creative therapy doesn’t rely on conversation alone. It gives children and young people tools to explore feelings through play, stories, movement, and art. It feels natural to them.

Each session lasts 35–50 minutes depending on age and follow a consistent weekly schedule. Children and young people choose what and how they play and create. I follow their lead and join in when invited or when the relationship allows; directing them to explore a common theme or feeling in a playful and creative way.

I offer sessions privately at The Creative Hearts Studio in Dunstable or in schools across London, Barnet and Bedforshire. I offer a calm, neutral setting to support emotional safety and consistency.

I do not offer home visits – sessions take place in designated therapy spaces or schools.

Therapy typically runs for a minimum of 12 sessions, with regular reviews each term/every 8 weeks.

Additional sessions are available based on your child’s needs.

I welcome neurodivergent children, including those with ADHD, autism and sensory needs, and tailor sessions with a flexible, strengths-based approach. My aim is to meet each child where they are, adapting the space, pace and materials to support engagement in a way that feels safe and comfrotable.

As long as your child or young person is able to take part in sessions, with gentle support if needed, therapy can be adapted to meet their needs.

I have completed DIR-Floortime training to ensure I am able to meet the needs of all I work with.

I  also currently collaborate with a team of psychiatrists and clinical psychologists who are committed to neurodivergent-affirming practice. This ongoing work continues to shape and deepend my own approach to inclusive, person-centred care.

Therapy supports children and teens dealing with anxiety, anger, grief, low confidence, identity exploration, school challenges, and more. Have a look at Rubix Blog or Creative Arts Therapy pages for more information.

Yes, I also work with teens. Creative arts therapy is just as powerful for supporting identity, stress, emotions or school pressure. You can read more on the Therapy for Young People page.

Absolutely. Many children and young people communicate through creativity and play when words feel too tricky – it’s a very natural form of self-expression.

Parent Involvement

I work with children one-to-one during sessions. For especially anxious young clients, I ease transition by inviting parents to stay for part of the first session.

For younger children, let them know this is a safe space to explore feelings through play and creativity. I’ll also provide a visual guide to support the conversation. For a young person, be honest and invite them to ask questions. I will also explain my role in our first session together.

I ask for consent from every parent or guardian with legal responsibility before sessions begin.

Questions For Schools

I provide school-based therapy and work closely with SENCOs, DSLs and pastoral teams. You can learn more on the Support for Schools page.

I work collaboratively with school staff to embed therapy within the wider care system. I also run refelctive sessions where staff feel supported, explore ideas, and grow creatively. You can learn more on the Support for Schools page.

I can arrange termly reviews and provide an end-of-therapy report upon request for an additional fee. For school-funded sessions, reports are usually agreed in advance.
