Because Understanding the Process Makes it Easier to Take the First Step
Here’s everything you need to know about therapy with Rubix – from what sessions look like to how we support your child or young person’s therapeutic journey. If you don’t see your question answered here, feel free to Get In Touch.
About Therapy
It’s a form of therapy that helps children and young people express themselves using art, play, movement and metaphor—especially when words are hard to find.
Rather than relying on conversation alone, creative therapy gives children and young people the tools to explore feelings through play, stories, movement, and art. It feels natural.
Sessions last 35–50 minutes depending on age and follow a consistent weekly schedule. Children and young people are free to choose what and how they play and create. I follow their lead and join in when invited or when the relationship allows; directing them to explore a common theme or feeling in a playful and creative way.
Sessions can take place privately in NW London (NW11) or in schools located in North West London or Central Bedforshire. I offer a calm, neutral setting to support emotional safety and consistency.
To maintain safety and consistency, I do not offer home visits – sessions take place in designated therapy spaces or schools.
To consistently interact with the individual in an open, accepting, and respectful manner throughout our sessions to build a trusting relationship. I set clear boundaries to help us use the space with intention and to support a safe, trusting relationship.
In the early stages of therapy, I will remain non-directive, meaning the child or young person can freely choose what and how to play and create in the room. I follow their lead and engage in their play and creativity when invited. I will provide observations and reflections to help the child or young person to learn more about themselves and their world.
Once a trusting relationship has been established and the individual is open to a particular direction for their sessions, I may then start to implement more directive and structured play and creativity to help them work through the feelings and experiences they are bringing into the space.
Therapy typically runs for a minimum of 16 sessions, with regular reviews each term/every 6 weeks. Additional sessions are available based on your child’s needs.

Absolutely. Many children and young people communicate through creativity and play when words feel too tricky – it’s a very natural form of self-expression.
Parent Involvement
I meet with parents before therapy begins to discuss your child’s needs. I offer check-in emails after the first three assessment sessions, and provide termly (or six-weekly) progress updates – not session content, to protect confidentiality.
Children attend sessions independently. For especially anxious young clients, I offer a gentle transition by inviting parents to stay for part of the first session.
For young children, explain that it’s a safe space to explore feelings through play and creativity. I’ll provide a visual guide to support your conversation. For a young person, be honest and invite them to ask questions. I also explain my role in our first session together.
